November 11, 2010 - Labuan

By: Arturo Valdez

7:49 AM - Heavy downpour until we slept late last night trying to catch up with our emails. The skies still cloudy this morning with occasional showers to keep everyone at bay. We leave early at 6AM tomorrow for Kota Kinabalu (KK), our last international port of call before crossing Balabac Strait to Palawan.

Most of the crew is still asleep this morning but will all be up once stores open to buy chocolates for "pasalubong". Labuan has emerged as an important financial and commercial center but it can trace part of its history as a haven for "blue seal" cigarettes that swamped the Philippines in the '60's made known by Mr. Lino Bocalan, among many others.

Our early morning departure from Labuan to Kota Kinabalu (KK) tomorrow will enable us to catch up with Datuk Tenko Adlin, our gracious host and friend, who had just made it from abroad to see us in our last departure call in KK for Labuan. This time, we hope to spend more time with him before we depart for home waters.
