November 9, 2010 - Stop over at Miri's Marina

By: Arturo Valdez

1:35 PM - Already exhausted for almost 48 hours of closely watching our sea route to avoid floating logs and debris along the coast of Sarawak, I thought that the crew would be totally spent if we continue traveling again for another night towards Labuan. This made me decide to stop at Miri's Marina whose owner Mr Troy and its captain Ari Fin have been very supported in our last stop over providing us comfort and safety. It was the best decision because heavy downpour and thunderstorm were all over us.Even the city of Miri with all its bright lights disappeared in heavy rain when we were about to enter the channel towards the Marina. I can just imagine our situation if we were out there in the open sea with this kind of weather. I thought that no need to rush anymore in our last few nights in foreign waters.Better to travel only during daytime to avoid the dreaded possibility of hitting giant timbers which Masawa did the previous nights. Luckily, we were able to extract the log sticking at our bow path  before it inflected serious damaged. Now,we are replenishing our supplies for an early morning departure towards Labuan tomorrow. Per weather update, wind will be blowing southerly, favorably blowing the flotilla northward.

Our gratitude and thanks to the owner of Miri's Marina Mr Troy and the very helpful Capt Ari Fin, himself, a great mariner and sailor.
