October 27, 2010 - Rainy Route for Upcoming Days

By: Arturo Valdez

10:45 PM - We were busy the whole day preparing all our supplies for the next 5 days of continuous sailing. Sailing at night is tough but the waters closer to the equator is gentler and more settled. If ever we decide to make a break, we can stop at a cluster of islands called Kepulauan Anambas, in the Malaysian side of the South China Sea. Somehow, the monsoon rains are here. It has been raining whole day.

This is Voltaire's update which confirmed a rainy route for us in the coming days.

You will start to experience the tail of strong north-easterly winds close to Terengganu by Oct 29, the same winds that would hinder your approach to North Vietnam. This will be accompanied by stronger rains (29-31)

Conditions close to Terangganu:

Partly cloudy, scattered rain-showers. Stronger rains by 20-31 Oct.
Winds: mostly light westerlies, changing to strong northerly direction by mid-week,

Light and variable winds with smooth seas. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: WNW 3 to 4 knots
Seas: NW 2 feet at 4 sec

Afternoon

Light and variable winds with smooth seas. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: WSW 2 to 3 knots
Seas: NW 1 feet at 4 sec.

Wednesday 10/27
Morning
Light and variable winds with smooth seas. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: N 2 to 3 knots
Seas: WNW 1 feet at 4 sec.

Afternoon
Light and variable winds with smooth seas. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: W 2 to 3 knots
Seas: WNW 1 feet at 4 sec.

We're crossing the South China Sea from Kertih in Terengganu State, Peninsular Malaysia (East) direct to Kuching in Sarawak State, Borneo Island. Unless we have to stop for any emergencies in one of the islands mid-way, this voyage will be continuous day and night travel.
