September 23, 2010 - Indonesia after 3 days of sailing

By: Arturo Valdez

5:52 PM - We got signal at last and finally see a big land most likely Bentan, Indonesia after 3 days of sailing the part of South China Sea between Sarawak, Borneo and Bentan/Singapore about 417 NM distance. Balangay flotilla  just been through "kanas-kanas" or swall and a 'twister' just missed Diwata by 50 meters an hour earlier. Altogether we're all fine and drenched wet but in high spirits. Hope to make first landfall in Indonesia by 10 PM.

8:53 PM - We're 11.8 miles away from Batam and Nungsa Marina. We're hugging the Indonesian coast 5 miles away from the vessels queuing  along the busy Singapore Strait. We're all on the lookout traversing this congested sea lanes to avoid being rundown by giant ships. Modernity is Balangay's greatest threat!
