Sandakan - First International Port/Stop - August 15, 2010

By: Arturo Valdez

We arrived in Sandakan 15 Aug after an unbelievable experience with the giant turtles seeing them lay their eggs, hatch lings (baby turtles) crawling back to sea and finally the giant turtles themselves struggling back home towards the ocean after laying 4 dozens of eggs. Wish you could be here to enjoy this rare encounter.

August 15 - 2:00 PM
Entered port of Sandakan from Baguan, Turtle Islands. Swell was heavy and seas rough but wind blows favorably making the travel cut by 2 hours. At one time Masawa and Diwata was registering 8.5 knots on a southwest wind. We're docked at Sandakan Yacht Club and enjoyed courtesy of port because of our partnership with Manila Yacht Club. This is our 81st and our 1st international port/stop.
