From an advance party's point of view

By: Janet Sardena

From CCP to Bacolod, my main role was to set up activities and schedules for the team in every port of destination a.k.a ADVANCE PARTY. So my experience in the boat during this time is vey limited. I was with Carina, kapitan Mon of team ventures, sir Mark and Lito during the first few days but then there was shifting of assignments because of the need of manpower in the boat. Napunta si Sir Mark sa boat at natira ako, Ca and Lito. But then we realized Lito was more productive in handling the food preparation inside the boat so he went with the crew at pumalit si Peter para at least may kasama kame ni Ca magbuhat ng mga gamit :) Then pinalitan ni Leo si Peter in Bora in preparation for the Visayas area ( Leo will head the adv party there).

So here are the events I can remember from day 1:

Sep 1- Diwata left CCP to sail to Fort San Felipe at 0930H. Adv part took the land going to Fort San Felipe in Cavite. Diwata arrived at 1300H and was given a warm welcome by the Naval Command headed by Commodore Losbanes. visited the museum and had a hearty meal of bibingka and palabok. Diwata left for Ternate at 1400H. She was up against strong currents and winds so it took her another 6 hours to reach the safety of Ternate.

Sept 2-8 : Diwata was stranded in Ternate because of typhoon Labuyo. Umpisa pa lang, adventure na.Tinago namin sya sa Ternate River. Symposium  was held by the team, repairs and most of the time waiting game ang nangyari while hoping for a good weather.

Sept 8- Team went to mass at Ternate church that night to pay respect for Mama Mary's birthday. Nakakatuwa kasi kahit pala astig at tigasin ang mga kasama namin na mga men in uniform, they are God-fearing as well. Ang kaso, naanod si Diwata that night from the river. Maragondon dam was opened due to prolonged heavy rains. Good thing nothing serious happened to Diwata and the crew. Naiwan nga lang ako mag isa sa school where we were staying and I was so scared kasi may nagpapakita dun. nights before may nanghipo kay Ca at Lito. May nakita din si Peter na 'white thing' daw. ewan, at least nobody was hurt that night. Diwata sailed back to Sangley and stayed ther for the next stormy days.

to be continued....
