Arrival in Siquijor (November 8, 2009)

By: Arturo Valdez

At 8:30am of Nov 8, we were sailing towards Siquijor. The northeasterly wind “Amihan” was already favorably blowing in our direction and Diwata glided elegantly with the waves. No less than Governor Shane Fua was at the dock leading the welcome crowd when we tied our mooring rope at 1pm. I can sense awe from the crowd seeing us at their port riding on this ancient boat. After the usual pleasantries we rushed immediately to the Provincial Gym for the symposium. As usual the venue was filled with students and residents who enthusiastically waited for our presentation. The crew was so inspired that they gave their best to present the rationale behind the Voyage. The symposium ended past 5pm and we retreated to our sleeping quarter at the Legislative Hall of Siquijor.

Meanwhile, because Siquijor Port is quite exposed openly to the sea, we brought the Balangay to the cove of Larena for a safer and sheltered stay in the island.
